- The sight test is obviously part of the eye examination, and a prescription will be issued
- should this be necessary.
NOT JUST A SIGHT TEST
- Over the years, Opticians, or Optometrists as they are now entitled, are uniquely skilled
- professionals in all aspects of eye structure and the pathology surrounding this complex
- and mysterious organ, which, as one of our most valuable of senses, is often neglected
- for long periods of time. This is mostly due to the 'old fashioned' idea that eye examinations
- are only required to check the sight and determine the need for spectacles or sight correction.
- Another reason for this neglect is because the eyes very rarely hurt or ache, unlike teeth and
- Gums which immediately prompt a visit to the Dentist, .The symptoms of many of our
- personal engineering problems are usually connected to a general feeling of being unwell,
- not so with the eyes.
- On occasions, an individual will be aware of an obvious problem, but this is usually acute,
- or possibly even a problem that could have been resolved sooner if diagnosed.
- Eye conditions such as Glaucoma are treated successfully, and a high percentage of sufferers
- have it under control by medication, but damage caused by untreated Glaucoma is largely
- irrecoverable, which means early detection is very important to avoid the onset of partial
- sight loss or even blindness.
THE FIELD TEST

- Optometrists are also able to determine the necessity for treatment for high blood pressure
- or cholesterol, and even diabetes.
- Regular eye examinations are an essential part of our routine health maintenance,
- and a created Optical patient history can also have a significant effect on your future
- dependence on what you are able to see or do.
THE PRESSURE TEST

- Examinations are by appointment and usually take approximately 30 minutes,
- The Optometrist will advise a recall period recommending your next examination,
- this will normally be from 3 months to 12 months for children, 24 months for adults
- to the age of 70 unless a particular situation is being monitored, and 12 months for
- adults over 70.Although you are able to be seen by the Optometrist at any time
- should you feel the need.
NHS Eye Examinations.
- NHS schemes and services are operating at Optimeyes, children up to the age of
- 16 years are entitled to routine eye examinations under the National Health Service,
- and up to 19 years old if in full time education.
- Adults over the age of 60 are also entitled to Eye Examinations under the NHS system
- Others entitled to Examinations under the scheme are Adults over the age of 40 who
- have a close blood relative (Mother, Farther, Sister, Brother). People receiving tax
- credits or other income supports, or people who suffer from diabetes.
